Raku Ceramic Canadian Shield
Summary
Born in Blackpool, England in 1955, Steve Robinson received his B.F.A. Honours Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1979. His major areas of study were painting and drawing with a minor in film studies.
Steve began working in Raku in 1985 and exhibited his work in Juried Art and Craft shows across Canada.
After years of traveling and exhibiting work in Art and Craft shows, Steve's focus changed to a more sculptural format. In 1996 he held his first solo exhibition of Raku sculpture. The exhibition titled "cutting through THE SHIELD", was a testimonial to the beauty, power and strength of the Canadian Shield.
Steve's heart dwells in the mother rock of the Canadian Shield .His studio is an Embassy to the Shield, everywhere are photos taken on canoe trips and drawings of granite rising from the water.
In 1997 Steve took his first trip to Africa, armed with a camera and sketch book, he studied rock formations throughout southern Africa. Returning to his studio in Winnipeg he started to work.
Steve lives and runs a studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He runs workshops from his studio and in schools. His work is represented in galleries across Canada and in private collections worldwide.
If Steve is not in his studio you will find him and his dog "Moon" out paddling somewhere in the Canadian Shield.
