Summary
Robert Jones, a western Canadian artist, started painting in 1985 after he developed an interest in architectural illustration. He was an illustrator for six years, in which time he had the opportunity to develop skills in watercolour, gouache and airbrush techniques.
Robert has loves the outdoors and is a keen hiker and skier. Initially the west coast Whistler area was the subject of his work but since his move to Calgary, Alberta in 2000 he has focused on the beautiful and breathtaking, Canadian Rocky Mountains.
His is a time consuming, but effective, task. First he photographs and conceives the image, then breaking the scene down to its basics, interpreting the landscape into graphic shapes with a deliberate approach to detail. Drawing first in pencil, then piece by piece masking and airbrushing in acrylic, building the smooth, rich cascade of colour into a wonderful mountainscape.
