First Nation Carver Soapstone Antler
Summary
Darren (a Plains Cree and member of the Day Star first Nation) is also one of two founding members, and past Director of the North Plains Indian Artists Association (NPIAA). The NPIAA have held a successful group exhibit in Banff before now.
Darren began, carving in 1992 with antlers, bones, horns, and hooves of Deer, Moose and Elk, carving his first full Moose antler in 1993. He began working with stone in 1997, and now uses a variety of stone.
Working in realism and surrealism Darren bases his work on the natural world and often combines this with the ancient traditions and practices of his culture.
His works can be found predominantly in North America and have been presented to dignitaries, ambassadors, educators, and politicians, and is represented in private and public collections, throughout the world.
